is a Partner at ÀÖÓ㣨Leyu£©ÌåÓý¹ÙÍø Forensic in South Africa, where he leads the Investigations practice and oversees Corporate Intelligence and Asset Preservation services. He also serves as the Investigations Leader for ÀÖÓ㣨Leyu£©ÌåÓý¹ÙÍø across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Déan began his career as a prosecutor and state advocate with the Director of Public Prosecutions, handling high-profile fraud and commercial crime cases in South Africa’s Regional and High Courts. Even after transitioning to private practice, he continued to prosecute fraud cases and appeals, acted as an assessor in fraud trials, and led a major corporate failure investigation under a special delegation from the Witwatersrand Director of Public Prosecutions. Additionally, he has been appointed by the South African Registrar of Banks as an inspector and repayment administrator for illegal deposit-taking and Ponzi schemes.
With over 20 years of experience in forensic investigations and financial crime, Déan has managed and coordinated cases across multiple jurisdictions, including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, the UK, Isle of Man, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia, Canada, the UAE, Lebanon, and Iraq. He has also conducted seminars and workshops on fraud, corruption, money laundering, and forensic investigation techniques in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Ghana.
Appointed as a curator in multiple asset preservation cases by the High Court of South Africa, Déan has safeguarded assets ranging from cash and movable property to tobacco manufacturers and air charter businesses under proceeds-of-crime legislation. He has provided expert testimony in disciplinary hearings and criminal trials, including cases involving revenue inflation by a tobacco trader and alleged corruption by a former commissioner of the South African Police Service.
In addition, Déan has testified in arbitration proceedings on a R140 million preference share redemption claim for a mining finance house and led a team investigating a R14 billion mining dispute presented for mediation.
