Setting a strong foundation

Having well-defined plans, protocols, and innovative practices in place form the foundation of an effective and efficient response, while minimizing potential risks and helping drive a smooth recovery process. Summarized below are three initial steps to setting a strong foundation:

Regularly test response and recovery plans. Plans should continuously be revised and updated based on prior year experiences, lessons learned, and human resource constraints. These plans should specify the actions that need to be taken during various stages of response and recovery.
