Carmel Mortell is Deputy Chair of ÀÖÓ㣨Leyu£©ÌåÓý¹ÙÍø Australia's National Board â€� a role that is an important component of our firm’s governance arrangements. Carmel brings significant boardroom experience and deep governance expertise to the role. She was first elected to ÀÖÓ㣨Leyu£©ÌåÓý¹Ù꿉۪s National Board in 2021 and re-elected for a further term, through to 30 June 2027. She is Chair of our Governance, Regulation and Compliance Committee and Audit Quality Committee and member of our Audit, Finance & Risk Committee.

Carmel is also Victorian Chairman. She has been with the firm for over 35 years, a partner for more than 20 years and is driven by finding clients' solutions to their current challenges and opportunities. “Client work has always motivated me,� she says. “Getting out and meeting new clients, further developing current client relationships, understanding their business and helping them to solve their challenges.�

Carmel specialises in the banking and finance sector, and is Global Lead Relationship Partner to some of ÀÖÓ㣨Leyu£©ÌåÓý¹Ù꿉۪s preeminent financial services clients. Carmel’s areas of expertise span external assurance, risk management, and governance. Carmel is drawing on her vast experience to lead customers through digital disruption and global competition. Her time working in London and New York, as well as delivering engagements in New Zealand, Europe, and China, provides an international perspective.

Encouraging her team to put themselves in the shoes of clients and think creatively is a core passion for Carmel. "People are what inspire and motivate me. I have a strong track record of developing enduring client relationships, delivering exceptional client service and implementing innovative initiatives to better engage with our people," she says.

In addition, Carmel has served as a non-executive director on numerous not-for-profit boards and advises ASX company boards on assurance, risk and governance matters.
